Wildlife Reserve of Torre Guaceto:
Along our coast there is the Wildlife Reserve
of Torre Guaceto, declared "humid area of international importance" where the mediterranean scrub and the broad-leaved wood lives togher in armony. This is the kingdom of turtles, scooters, seagulls and migratory birds. Men have been present in Guaceto since the prehistoric age: the archaeological excavations registered the presence of a large village dating between the late bronze age and the beginning of the iron age.
Its name derives from the arabian "Gawsit", meaning "water" or "river" because of the presence of the fresh water in the reserve. There is also an observation tower built up during the XV Century to oppose the Saracens invasions.

Ostuni:
The "White Town" seems to be constituted by a white light and to visit its historical center is an unforgettable experience: the landscape round each corner is made by blue sea. This town has kept its original and medieval structure made by little and narrow streets and the arches closed in the surrounding walls.
This is an ancient town at first inhabited by Messapi and then conquered by Romans of whom there is still some tracks.
It is believed that this town was plundered by
Hannibal and then rebuilt by some greek settlers
(its white colour should be derived from these
last)

|
Ostuni was elected "city of art" during 1998
